Thalassemia
A hereditary form of anemia resulting from the underproduction of hemoglobin, the molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen. It occurs in populations bordering the Mediterranean and in Southeast ASIA. The severity of the disease varies depending on the type of thalassemia and may range from mild to severe.
