It is time to start planning your summer vacations and ASIA would like to invite you to spend August 1-3, 2008 with us on the Oregon Coast in Newport, Oregon for the 2008 Reunion. Please see the reunion flyer link for our itinerary of the weekend. As you can see, we have an exciting weekend planned and we hope you will be able to join us.

ASIA has done its best to keep the cost down. In fact, the cost for a family of four, including 2 nights at the Best Western Agate Inn, is $543.00. This is more than $100 less than our 2007 reunion in Seattle, WA and our 2005 reunion in Cannon Beach, OR!

Newport, Oregon offers guests many sites and activites for the whole family. It boasts the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Marine Discovery Tours, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, Rogue Pub & Brewery, Mo's Restaurant, and not to forget the beautiful beach and Pacific Ocean!

A limited number of hotels rooms have been reserved in Newport at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn. The rates ASIA has secured are $119 for a Hillside Room and $139 for an Ocean View Room. All rates are subject to state and local taxes (approximately 10.5%). Rates are for one or two adults -- extra adults; add $10 per night and children under 18 stay free with parents. Homeland Tours Information Opportunity

Throughout May and June, Michael Han of Always and Forever Homeland Tours will be traveling the country and presenting Homeland Tour options. We encourage you to stop by when he is in a location near you. Michael is the former Executive Director of ASIA and a homeland tour specialist.

Emotional Coaching and Attachment Workshop with Gail Hardman-Woung

Workshop on April 12 from 9:30-11:30am, we have to relocate. The workshop

ASIA would like to invite you to come join us for a discussion about one of the most difficult parenting skills- emotional regulation and coping with difficult and out-of-control situations. Gail Hardman-Woung will facilitate this workshop. She is a licensed clinical social worker with 13 years experience, working with children with disorders such as: Reactive Attachment, Oppositional Defiance, Fetal Alcohol Effect and Dissociative Identity Disorder. She is familiar with behavioral concerns due to neglect, abuse, and trauma and their therapeutic interventions. Gail was a foster parent for several years and is an adoptive parent. Gail works with families who are struggling with children’s issues, adopted children who spent numerous years in orphanages, teens and women.

FCC (Families With Children from China) Offer Monthly Meetings to All Waiting Families

Families at all stages of the pre-adoption process are welcome to join in these free monthly meetings. The meetings are organized and run by two former waiting families who have since completed the adoption process from China. There is a different topic discussed at each meeting. From health concerns with your adoptive child, to how to pack for the adoption trip. The setting is casual and friendly and is meant to be a support group and a place to educate those in the adoption process. You do not need to be an FCC member to attend these meetings. They are not sponsored by ASIA in any way and families from other adoption agencies are welcome to attend.For additional information on these meetings or on FCC, please visit the FCC Website.

ASIA invites our families to join the Portland-Kaohsiung Sister City Association for the “Eye Dotting Ceremony” and our annual spring event. This marks the beginning of the dragon boat season in Portland! See lion dancers, ceremonial Monks and Representatives of the Chinese community present an ancient ritual to insure the safety and success of the dragon boats and paddlers.

Bring umbrellas or sun bonnets, enjoy the ceremony and visit with other families and members of the ASIA staff.
