Special
Needs Fund

ASIA
has a special place in its heart for those children with special
needs that are waiting for their Forever
Families. Our Special Needs Adoption Fund is used to give each
family adopting a special needs child a discount, and to advocate
for these children so that they may find a permanent home. The
Fund is also used to assist children still living in China’s
institutions by funding surgeries, purchasing therapeutic equipment
and underwriting nutrition programs.
ASIA
families may remember our big drive last December to fund a
year’s worth of formula
and cereal for three orphanages in China through Love Without
Boundaries. These orphanages had
a high number of children with cleft lips and palates. Love
Without Boundaries and other organizations send teams of medical
personnel
to perform surgeries to repair clefts for children in China.
Before being eligible for surgery, children must be a minimum
weight, and sometimes the orphanage doesn’t have the
resources to give these children enough nourishment. ASIA families
donated
$3,175 for the Nutrition Program, and ASIA matched the first
$2,500 with money from the Special Needs Adoption Fund. Click

Without Boundaries.
In
2006 and 2007, we used money from the Special Needs Adoption
Fund to sponsor surgeries
for children on ASIA’s Waiting
Child lists, and to help special needs children who had been
adopted but faced unexpected difficulties after arriving
home. We plan to continue these projects and others as they
come
along. We are also happy to help with individual donations
for equipment
or surgeries for specific orphanages or children.
