Dear ASIA Friends and Families,
***EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORT*** We offer our profound thanks to the families who responded to ASIA's appeal for support to the orphanages damaged by the earthquakes in Sichuan Province, China. Every donor will soon receive a letter of receipt acknowledging their contribution. As you may recall, ASIA offered a challenge grant that we we match the first $2,000 raised. Yesterday I wired $6,212 (including ASIA's $2000 match) to the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA). All this money is earmarked for orphanage earthquake relief. If you still want to donate for earthquake relief, we have concluded this campaign; however, you can still contribute through Half the Sky or Love Without Boundaries. We received gifts from individual families, a church group and a kindergarten class! The CCAA has just presented agencies and families with the following opportunity to help those children who are more severely disabled in China in honor of the June 1st Childre's Day. Let's work together to assist these children to improve the quality of their lives and achieve as much success in life as possible. ASIA will match the first $1500 that comes in. Make your check to ASIA or call our office to charge your gift for the Loving Hearts Fund. One hundred percent of your donation will go to the fund; ASIA will donate its time and administration along with the matching gift. This campaign will run through June 16th, 2008. Once again thank you for your caring generosity for others. Below is an article posted by the CCAA. This is a rare opportunity to hear the recommendations and insights first hand of transracial adoptees and an adoptive parent who are willing to share their experiences of raising and being raised in communities with parents, family, friends who were/are of a different race than their own. Today's adoptive families and professionals working with them are of a generation who, through education, have the opportunity to mitigate some of the challenges faced by adoptive parents of the past while learning to maneuver new challenges of today. Come listen, engage and learn what it is/was like for them to be adopted into a mixed race family in the United States. This panel of adult adoptees and one adoptive parent will share their experience of living in a transracial family. Please remember to register for EITHER or BOTH of the upcoming events on June 14th. Pre-registration is required. Cost to attend both $90 per person ~ $120 per couple. Please send an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
