 In 1995, Michael Han and Craig Farnham, together with a small group of dedicated families, incorporated ASIA as a nonprofit 501c3 international child placement agency focusing on adoption from China. ASIA's first group traveled to China in 1996 to complete their adoptions. Since that time, ASIA has helped more than 600 Chinese children find families in the United States. ASIA prides itself in being a small, personal agency devoted both to the children it is placing and to those who wish to be their "forever families". At ASIA you will find a welcoming, kind and caring staff that works tirelessly to provide you with a positive and heartfelt adoption experience from your first inquiry to your unparalled travel experience to your post-adoption support.
The Oregon ASIA office is located in the historic Lair Hill neighborhood, conveniently located near downtown Portland. If you live nearby or are visiting from out of town, we invite you to stop by and meet our great staff of trained professionals and dedicated family builders. Our goals are to attentively coordinate your adoption process and to provide cultural, educational and emotional support to you throughout this journey.
A committed Board of Directors provides oversight, guidance and planning to ensure that the mission of the organization is fulfilled. Other volunteer positions range from office assistance to planning fundraising events.
The China ASIA office is located in Beijing, China - not far from the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA). In 1996 Susan (Xiaowen) Song began as a volunteer with ASIA's very first travel group. Several years later she became the Program Director and has blossomed from a shy volunteer to an outgoing leader. While Susan is trained as a radiologist, her work with ASIA is to coordinate and manage in-country travel, assist families to problem solve any on-site concerns, translate for families and represent ASIA to the CCAA. Ms. Chunying Chen is our able and warm-hearted volunteer and, as it happens, also Susan's mom!
